our approach

When we created Halo Hair Australia, we wanted to build something that reflected the standards, values, and quality we were constantly searching for ourselves within salon.

We’ve always genuinely loved all things hair and extensions, not just having worked in a extension salon environment for years, but personally too. Between us, we’ve worn and trialled almost every extension method over the years and know firsthand how much quality, comfort, thickness, and longevity truly matter long term.

Everything we’ve developed has come from real salon experience, ongoing testing, and years of working closely with extensions every single day. We wanted to create hair that not only looks beautiful initially, but continues to perform, blend naturally, and maintain its quality long term.

More than anything, we care about the people behind every stage of the process, from the stylists installing the hair, to the clients wearing it, and the people involved in ethically sourcing and manufacturing it as well.

For us, it’s never just been about selling hair. It’s about creating products we genuinely believe in and helping people feel their absolute best.

Our Process & Quality Standards

OUR PROCESS & QUALITY STANDARDS

At Halo Hair Australia, transparency has always been incredibly important to us.

As salon owners & working in a salon specialising in extensions every single day, we’ve had the opportunity to see firsthand the huge differences in quality, processing, longevity, and consistency across the extension industry. Over time, that led us to become more invested not just in the final product itself, but in understanding exactly how the hair is sourced, processed, manufactured, and tested behind the scenes.

From the beginning, our goal was to create premium-quality hair extensions backed by real salon experience, honest communication, and long-term performance, which we genuinely trusted both for our clients and ourselves.

We work closely with our manufacturing team throughout every stage of the process and maintain regular communication regarding sourcing, production, colour consistency, and quality control to ensure the hair performs to the standard we expect both in salon and for our wholesale clients.

TRANSPARENCY IN THE EXTENSION INDUSTRY

Transparency within the extension industry is incredibly important to us. Terms like “Russian” or “European” hair are often used loosely throughout the industry, despite genuine virgin Russian hair being extremely rare and highly expensive within today’s market.

One of the reasons true Russian virgin hair became so sought after historically was because it often originated from naturally lighter hair levels, requiring significantly less aggressive lightening during processing. Less processing can help maintain better cuticle integrity, softness, movement, and overall hair longevity.

However, the genuine supply of this type of hair is now extremely limited, which is why true virgin Russian hair commands a very high price when sourced authentically.

Rather than relying on misleading terminology or unrealistic claims, our focus has always been on sourcing and producing hair that genuinely performs long-term and meets the standards we expect within a salon every day.

ETHICAL SOURCING & MANUFACTURING

Ethical sourcing and working conditions are one of our biggest non-negotiables at HHA.

We work closely with our manufacturing team throughout every stage of the process and maintain regular communication regarding sourcing, production, colour consistency, processing methods, and quality control standards.

Our hair is ethically sourced from donors and carefully selected based on quality, strength, and overall condition. We use a blend of premium European and Asian hair types to create softness, longevity, and reliable salon performance across our extension ranges.

Rather than focusing purely on speed or mass production, our priority has always been to build strong, long-term relationships with the people behind the manufacturing process and to create hair extensions that genuinely perform in real salon environments.

Working within an extension-focused salon daily also allows us to continuously test our ranges in real-world conditions and gather ongoing feedback from both stylists and clients to help maintain the consistency and quality we expect from the HHA range.

SLOWER PROCESSING MATTERS

One of the biggest differences in premium-quality hair is the amount of time taken during the lightening and colouring process.

Many lower-quality extension ranges are processed very quickly to reduce production time and costs. While this may create a softer feel initially, aggressive or rushed processing can compromise the integrity of the cuticle and impact how the hair performs after washing, heat styling, and long-term wear.

At HHA, our Virgin and Remy ranges are processed using slower, more controlled colouring techniques. Our lightening process alone can take approximately 8–9 days, with total processing time extending beyond 20 days to help maintain the integrity, softness, and long-term performance of the hair.

This slower process allows the hair to be lifted and coloured more gradually, helping maintain:

  • softness
  • strength
  • elasticity
  • cuticle integrity
  • colour longevity
  • overall wear

While this process takes significantly longer, we believe it creates a noticeable difference in how the hair feels and performs over the long term.

As hair is a natural product, slight variation between batches can occasionally occur.

REMY VS NON-REMY HAIR

Not all “human hair” is the same, and honestly, not all Remy hair is either.

“Remy” simply means the cuticles are aligned in the same direction from root to tip, which helps reduce tangling and creates a softer, more natural finish. But that alone doesn’t automatically mean the hair is premium quality.

A lot of lower-quality Remy hair on the market is still heavily processed, over-coated in silicone, mixed with inconsistent hair types, or rushed through production to create temporary softness and shine. The issue is, once those coatings wear off, the hair can quickly become dry, tangled, matted, and difficult to manage.

At Halo Hair Australia, we focus heavily on sourcing, processing, consistency, and long-term salon performance. Our Remy ranges are ethically sourced, double-drawn, fully cuticle-aligned, and processed using slower, more controlled colouring techniques, including an extended lightening process designed to better preserve the hair's integrity.

Over the past four years working in an extension-focused salon, we’ve seen firsthand how different hair performs not just on installation day, but months later through daily wear, heat styling, washing, maintenance appointments, and long-term client use. That real salon experience has played a huge role in shaping the quality and standards behind our range.

PREMIUM SHADE DEVELOPMENT & CUSTOM BLENDS

One of the biggest things we focused on when developing the HHA range was creating a shade system that genuinely worked within salons for stylists.

Working with extensions daily, we found many ranges on the market offered very flat, one-dimensional shades that often made seamless colour matching difficult, particularly with modern lived-in blondes, root shadows, dimensional brunettes, and multi-tonal colouring techniques now commonly requested within salons.

Because of this, we invested heavily in developing one of Australia’s most extensive extension shade ranges, including custom blends, rooted shades, dimensional tones, and softer colour transitions, designed to create a more seamless, natural overall blend.

Creating multi-tonal shades, root shadows, and dimensional blends requires significantly more time, cost, colour development, processing, and consistency throughout manufacturing than producing single flat shades; however, for us, the difference in salon performance and colour matching has been more than worth it.

We are so proud of our range! Not only are they beautiful but our goal has always been to make colour matching easier for stylists while creating extensions that blend more naturally, look softer through the hair, and better reflect modern salon colouring techniques and trends.
